I have a Wifi thermostat that has been kicking off from wifi, and Honeywell says it may be security on router issue- incompatible- WPS something or other. So I lowered security once. NG....now I shut it off entirely so no password reqd. I am going away for 6 weeks and have to have my wifi thermostat working since old AC system, and if it dies while Im away my house will be ruined. I live in Florida- heat=mold.

Am I pretty safe leaving wifi open for the 6 weeks, starting tomorrow, since I wont be here so I wont be typing passwords? (As I understand it someone can pick up my passwords when I use my computer here at home if logged in on my wifi). I live suburban...not many neighbors right near me.

Or has someone already stolen all my passwords and files while I was typing this? Thx.

Someone can use your WiFi for whatever illegal purposes they want. There have been cases of people sitting in a car on the street, using someones open WiFi, to surf child porn. Any investigation would start with you.

If your PC's are on, they could potentially peruse your drives. They are on the same network.

And the WPS is a badly broken concept. That should be OFF no matter what.
What security protocol does the thermostat speak? Hopefully something like WPA2.
