GPU bottle necking

Solution
The CPU will definitely bottleneck the 280x depending on what game you are playing. I would take a look at benchmarks for the 4350 in the games you plan on playing and see how big of a hit it is and whether that makes you go with a different choice.

I would personally go with the 8350 for AMD, but you can get an intel i5 or even an i3 that will perform better than the 4350 in games but won't break the bank.

If he really was down on money you can get a decent Z97 board for $100 and the Pentium K (Pentium 3258) and overclock the hell out of it. With the stock cooler you can reach some decent speeds without breaking the bank.

And it wouldn't bottleneck after you OC'd it high enough (or bottleneck much at least)

would a 920 i7 first gen nehelam bottle neck 2 radeon 280x the hi I was wondering if this cpu with a piar or radeon 280x playing in 4k monitor
I was wondering if my first gen core i7 920 would be a bottleneck for 4k gaming and them 2 cards crossfired?

also would a cooler master real power pro 650 -60amps be enough power for crossfire 280x
the AMD FX 4350 looks faster then a i7 920@3.4ghz

Everyone's suggestion seems to want you to spend $350+ on a whole new MOBO and CPU... I'm assuming you already are using an AM3+ socket mobo. If so, your cheapest option would be to go 8320, which will only give you a slight bottleneck in older games or CPU intensive games (which is a small percentage of current gen games). Otherwise it will run the 280x just as well as an i-5. You can easily OC the the 8320 to have better performance of an 8350 at stock for $50 cheaper

SLI generates more heat and uses more power. It's not justified since the cost is considerably higher than just buying a brand new 290x.
