The case might come with a case speaker. These are the really small speakers you plug into your mobo so you can hear the beeps of error codes if you need to.

The HD audio is for the front mic input and headphone/speaker output. So you can plug your mic/headphones into the front port instead of the motherboard's rear I/O if you want to.

this is a case speaker : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
If you have one with the case you have it if not you can buy them cheap.

EDIT: acording to the Pic here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... It comes with one. this usually connects near the front panel connectors but can be located elsewhere on the board.

ok, thanks. how can I find out if it does have one? I have found nothing to suggest whether it has one or not. The manual provides instructions for installing components but says nothing about the system speaker at all. I don't want to order one, wait for it to get here and then return it, if the case has one already in place.

The case speaker isn't actually part of the case. It just might come with a speaker that you plug into your motherboard (called a case speaker).

You don't really need one, they can just make troubleshooting certain issues a bit faster. The chances are you won't need to use one.

If it does have one it is located up in the top where the power switch is and I don't think I can get in there

I am building from scratch and prefer to use it to make sure everything works. It is not located in the box of cables so I think I will just buy one. Thank you for your help :)

Thank you. I know what it is and what it is used for. I just can't find it and wanted to make sure I didn't need to buy one as most cases come without them.

Good luck and have fun building. This and the tweaking is my favorite part of building the PC. Not so much when they make you troubleshoot them from the start though.

Thanks, I intend to have a load of fun! Crawling inside a case to replace a component has always been fun for me and building my own has been my dream. Hopefully my next build will have a higher budget. :bounce:
