Would the first one have a CPU bottleneck on the GPU?

4k Yes, 1440p would probably be preferred. Frames wise, check youtube or DIY reviews for single vs. multi GPU performance. Though I'm quite sure 1440p should be no problem :p

clearly the 2nd one has better performance with a 4GHz I7 and water cooling. Also the Tri-x GPUs have great cooling whilst XFX have rubbish cooling. The R9-290 is very close to the X so no need for the X, particularly as you'll have crossfire which will easily drive 3 1080 monitors.

And here's where the contradiction and controversy begins. Since I don't have knowledge on the subject, I'd like you both to explain to me a bit more. Well actually, leeb already made a fair argument.

I'm leaning on the second for more headroom CPU, RAM wise. In terms of cooling and noise the second one also appeals to me.

Consider this, with my 21 tabs open in chrome, youtube, techpowerup, twitch, mail, manga, liveleak, that alone uses 3400MB of RAM xD.

My original question was poorly worded... I meant to ask "Which one is better FOR GAMING?" I hope this doesn't change anyone's opinions, and my apologies if it does.
