I just got a new R9 280x gpu. I'm using a 3 sided pci-e connector. Here's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812198035&cm_re=6_pin_pci_express_power_cable-_-12-198-035-_-Product
I'm using the 6+2 pin pci-e to plug into my gpu and modular psu. The connector fits fine into the psu, but won't go in all the way. I had a previous gpu in there but it only required one 6 pin pci-e so I didn't have the problem. Could you tell me why the 6+2 pin pci-e won't fit into the 6 pin pci-e slot?

That is a very dangerous connector! I don't even know how it is supposed to work with 3 male connectors, 1 is a CPU power connector and 2 are PCI-e connectors.

What power supply are you using? Why are you using this cable? Did you lose the cable that came with your power supply? The reason it won't go into your PSU is likely due to the fact that it is key'd wrong, the pins are key'd to try to keep you from putting the wrong plug in the wrong hole. No end on that cable should plug into your PSU...

I am using a cx 430m power supply. And yes, I did lose the cable that came with the psu. And I couldn't find any cables that are for a psu which is very weird. It's possible that I'm just using the wrong words when i search for it on newegg. I also have an extension cable that fits into the psu but it doesn't work if I use the 3 sided connector with it.

Do you think i could have wrecked my psu by connecting that dangerous cord to it using the extension cord? I did this on accident because I thought it was a 3 sided cord that would allow me to power my gpu
