Hello!

About at my wits end here... Currently running 4GB RAM in my rig and trying to upgrade to 16GB. Windows 7 Professional 64bit. MOBO and brand new RAM are compatible but when booting, machine locks up right before windows logo appears. When I run Ubuntu from the CD-ROM it works just fine and recognizes all 16GB of RAM. Splash screen right before windows also recognizes 16GB RAM. I have upgraded BIOS to most current version. I have changed settings in BIOS to accept the 10-10-10-27 setting for the RAM and tried at both recommended 1.5V and even 1.6V as I saw in another thread here. Additionally, I have tried four total RAM combinations from various manufacturers and various combos ranging from 8GB to 16GB.

Can't seem to figure out why Ubuntu runs fine with the RAM, but Windows refuses? Any assistance from those of you much smarter than I would be greatly appreciated! I am quite a novice when it comes to this!

Here are some other specs:

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H (BIOS ver. F7)
Processor: Intel i5 661 3.33 LGA1156
NEW RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x8 CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
Me: 6' 175lbs with a lot more gray hair than when I began this process.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR WILLINGNESS TO ASSIST!

Thanks Phillip - I saw that same list and then I saw a few others that said the MOBO takes a max of 16. Even the MOBO manual says 16. But there is so much conflicting information out there I dunno what to believe!

If the MOBO didn't accept 16GB, though, wouldn't it be safe to say Ubuntu wouldn't have been able to boot up with the 16GB (2x8 sticks) in it?

If you have confirmed that your not able to boot with your default memory settings. Try resetting your BIOS by clearing all settings by removing the CMOS battery off the motherboard off for like 5 minutes. Power on without the cmos battery and see if you can get to windows.
