I'm so scared as I think I may have lost all my photos and music that I have currently on my USB. When I insert it, it says it needs to be formatted before I can use it again, but I do NOT want to do that as I can't lose everything what I have on it.

I've tried the chkdsk thing, and I think that works, but it's telling me that it won't do it because apparently it is in RAW format. Is there a way I can bypass that so I can retrieve my files?

Please let me know if you need any details pertaining the USB.

Please(!) tell me there is hope for me and my files.

Perhaps there's a program that can retrieve files from an non-formatted disk, else you could give a fast format to your USB drive so you can use programs like GetMyDataBack or Easy Recovery Pro.

I had the same issue once, my HDD lost it's partition, I formatted it and then Easy Recovery Pro (almost sure that was the one I used) got back around 90% of my lost data.

Are any of these free? I don't want to spend x amount of money for this one time.

Testdisk is a completely free application which might be able to help you retrieve your files from your RAW disk.

What kind of software will fix the RAW format thing? That's all I really need to know as I can then use the CMD chdsk method what I have heard to be very good at solving this problem.

I've just tried TeskDisk and it crashed my computer, so either it isn't compatible with my computer, or I'm doing it wrong. Plus, I don't understand how to use it. All I'm getting is random files and none are saying recover files or the like.

There are few of its kind which are free like Recuva and TestDisk both are top products but be sure you have lot of time to perform the task as deep scaning the drive may took hours based on the amount of data stored on disk.
