No Signal After Windows Splash Screen With GTX 660

I recently replaced a faulty graphics card with a new GTX 660. it installed well and before installing the drivers I was able to boot my computer just fine. However, after installing the drivers my monitor would say 'no signal' after loading windows.

Could this be a sign that my PSU isn't supplying enough power to the card, or could it be a motherboard issue?

PSU: Raidmax Hybrid 730w PSU with +12v1 24 A and +12v2 24 A
Motherboard: Gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3
GPU: EVGA GTX 660

Yes, I have done that a few times. the last time I done it I used driver sweeper to make sure there were no remaining driver files before installing the Nvidia drivers. But, that didn't solve my problem.

I don't think the card is DOA since it does show the bios screen, and works whenever the drivers aren't installed. But with the drivers installed, the monitor loses signal after the windows splash screen.

If it's important. My bios version is revision 3.0.

Well, it could still be DoA, since hardly anything is required of it to run a simple BIOS screen, but as soon as you ask anything of it, it croaks.

Do you have different panel or monitor or if you have an hdmi cable try hooking it up on your tv.

Also, hit start type msconfig -> go to services -> tick the box hide windows services -> then disable all services, except nvidia driver -> go to the pane called start and disable everything there as well.

This way we can exclude all other programs as the culprit.

I don't think there would be any program interfering with the drivers, since they're the same drivers I was using for my old card. Nvidia driver 337.88.

As for the monitor, I tried it with two. The first was my secondary monitor which is connected to teh card vie vga with DVI adapter. The main monitor I have uses an HDMI cable, and this also broved to not work. So I don't think it has to do with monitor compatibility.

Going back to the topic of DOA. Would the car still out put an image after windows start up using the windows default device drivers? That's the only way I can get any picture.

It's possible, again the drivers enable full use of your cards functions where a standard device driver simply makes it usable with the most basic instructions, for compatibility.

One last thing to try, some older drivers from Nvidias homepage. Else, I'd have to say the dreaded words: RMA D:

Well, I have tried the drivers that came with the device, version 314, but this didn't work either. So, I think it is, in fact, a DOA. Thankfully it's still under 30 day warranty, so I'll ship it back for a new one. Thank you again for your help, though. :D

Well, I've found out that the card is alive and well by testing it in my brother's computer. I tried installing a new power supply, and updated my motherboard bios, but it's still giving me the same issue. I really am at a loss now of what to do.

Are you absolutely positive that all your MOBO drivers are up to date?

Also I wrote this earlier:
"Also, hit start type msconfig -> go to services -> tick the box hide windows services -> then disable all services, except nvidia driver -> go to the pane called start and disable everything there as well."

This way we can exclude all other programs as the culprit."

Give it a shot.

I downloaded the latest chipset drivers from the Gigabyte website and made sure to get the ones for my revision.

I've done what you've said and had no success.

I still don't know what the issue is, why my motherboard can't handle the card I'm using. But I am wanting to replace it anyway since I hear there's a lot of problems with Gigabyte's boards. I know that the board I'm getting works with the card since it's the board I used for my brother's computer, and my card does work in his PC.

Maybe the revision 3.0 board can't understand a card with a uefi bios, or maybe it doesn't let 3.0 work on the 2.0 slots?

PCI-E 2.0 vs. 3.0 shouldn't be an issue. I've never had problems with that before, since it's basically nothing more than a wider highway meeting a smaller one. :p

I'm stumped, though. Hopefully replacing the mobo will fix the issue. Let us know how it goes.

I haven't replaced the mobo just yet, but while talking to Gigabyte, they've said that the issue could possibly be driver confliction.

Is there a way to know for sure that it's a driver issue? I have done clean installs using driver sweeper (Now known as DDU). One thing that does happen is that windows immediately installs VGA controllers for the GTX 660, even with automatic installation turned off. If I use these controllers with the device enabled, it brings the screen up with a huge resolution. Which is why I run the computer with teh display device disabled. Do you think that the VGA controller is causing issues?

I am having the same problem with my Sapphire HD 7870 Ghz OC edition except after splash screen my screen goes black but the monitor will stay on like it's receiving a signal. I've tried everything except replacing parts/re-installing OS. Unfortunately I do not have a second PC to test the card in. What throws me off is that I've been using this same rig since April 2012.

just an update to an ongoing discussion. I have an asus G75VW laptop with the NVisia GTX660m. I get the BSOD after the windows 7 logo splash but the PC still continues to boot. Thought the problem might be the video card like everyone else so I purchased 2 new cards. Both had the same problem. Everything works when drivers are not installed i.e. in standard VGA mode but when drivers installed it goes black at logon screen. So I ruled out the video card being the issue. On the off chance I was still wrong I purchased another laptop exactly like the one I had originally. moved the hard drives between the 2 pc's and guess what. The new PC's drive booted fine in my PC but my Drive had same issue in the new PC. Something is jacked in windows NOT the video card. I am thinking that a switch in windows got changed and instead of displaying the logon screen it sends sleep mode to video. If I find the switch I will post it but for now I am running in VGA mode till I find the answer.
