Just recently, I've been getting a ton of BSODs and random blackouts especially when gaming. This also occurred while surfing the net or watching youtube vids. It was only after I installed a new video card, R9 280X, that this started happening. Thinking maybe I didn't have enough power intially (Antec 520watt bronze cert), I went and bought a Corsair bronze cert 750w power supply. Still got the same results...after fuming about spending the money on the video card (paid 200 used) and on the new power supply, I decided to try my brother's GTX 750 ti in my system. No progress as BSOD/blackouts still occurring...The only thing I need to test now is my memory sticks but would appreciate if someone had any other suggestions. Could it be the motherboard going bad or hard drive? I did do a prime95 test today for 5 hours and my cpu seemed to be fine...temps only got up to about 50 degrees.

My current system:
AMD 1100T locked at 3.6 GHz (turbo/cool&quiet disabled) 212 cooler
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 rev 1.0
8 G G-SKILL 1600 RAM
2TB 5400 Seagate HD
Club3d R9 280X KING 3GB
Samsung DVD RW
Corsair CX750 PSU
Windows 7 Home 64 bit

Solution
You're going to have to do some testing to make any further progress with your troubleshooting.

Test the hard drive with the bootable CD version (ie DOS version) of either SeaTools or HGST Drive Fitness Test:
http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/item/seatools-dos-master/
http://www.hgst.com/support/downloads/legacy-downloads#DFT

you can use IMGBurn to create the CD from a CD Image: http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn

If the hard drive proves to be okay, test the RAM with this (as above, create CD from the CD Image):
