Picked up a refurb motherboard to replace a server in a pinch and went to store and asked for an 1155 processor XEON E3-1240 V2, but the guy gave me a a XEON E3-1240 V3 (an 1150 processor instead). Dang thing fits in the socket. I tried to boot the motherboard and it powered up but didn't post. That's when I re-read the box and noticed the little V2 (why does Intel do this?)
Did I toast the motherboard? The Processor? Both? I need motherboard because I am rebuilding a Windows 2003 server and I can't find any other motherboards that still support that OS.
