Hello, I recently built my own computer for the first time and while it started and installed Windows without a hitch, it has now started to freeze up and blue screen at the most random times. It even restarted once but it hasnt happened since I changed PSU's. I've been trouble shooting for a month now and cant find a fix. Clean installed Windows again and the problem came back shortly. I can't seem to collect a .dmp file even after I set the correct settings to make a small memory dump. I'll give you any and all information i can think of.

PC SPECS
Windows 7 Home Premium

RAM-Kingston HyperX Black 2x-4g KHX16C9B1BK2/8X

MoBo-Asus M5A99fx PRO 2.0

GPU- EVGA GeForce GTX 770

HDD-Western Digital Blue 1tb harddrive

CPU-AMD FX-6300 w/ stock cooler

PSU-600w Corsair CX-600 (Had a 850w CoolerMaster but i think it was giving off bad power due to the restart i mentioned earlier so I put the 600 in and no problem with power)

I've done plenty of tests and nothings has come back. Some odd warnings and errors in the event viewer. I'll leave blue screen info and hope some one gets back to me.
Blue screens
STOP: 0x000000F4
STOP: 0x0000007A
there are more numbers after those and each blue screen they kinda change so i didnt feel like putting them. If you need them let me know.
It only alternates between those two and the freezes happened completely randomly. During a game, browsing internet, playing Solitare, and even the second i turn on my computer when it goes to Windows log-in. The weird part is when it crashes when I'm playing a game or listening to something, the audio and video go slow-mo and the mouse and keyboard reaction is increadibly slow until it goes out 5 seconds later. All temps are fine and have my case open with a fan blowing into it so its definitely not overheating. If anyone could help me out i would be eternally greatful. Much love.

Since both of those stop codes point towards your HDD, I'd say it's most likely either a bad HDD OR you hooked it up wrong OR you have a setting wrong in how the HDD is accessed. It could even possibly be a bad SATA cable. First I would check all of your internal connections. Make sure everything is completely clipped in. Secondly I would try to get my hands on another cable to try. If both of those fail, I'd try another HDD.

On the note about your PSU, cooler master doesn't have a great track record with PSUs, aside from very few models. I would tread lightly with that 600w corsair, not that it's bad, but because you have a power hungry processor and a GTX 770. Personally I would feel a bit safer with a solid 700 or 750 from Seasonic...

Thank you for the fast reply. I changed the SATA cable and made sure all internal connections were completely seated and clicked. There are 6 SATA connectors on the MoBo 2 Blue for drives only and 4 Grey for optical and drives. I plugged my HD into the Blue and the optical into the Grey so that should be the right one. I'll peek into my BIOS(not that familiar) and see what the HD setting is. I'll test out how it is now and report back ASAP. Thanks again.

Alright I got home from work and the computer had been runnin for 5 hours or so. I loaded up a song on youtube and started playin Path of Exile (game) and a few minutes in my mouse, keyboard, and USB headphones stop working on screen but everything else is fine. The game was still going, music was still playing because i unplugged my headphones and music came from my monitor via HMDI, and everything else was still functioning. This is what would normally happen when my computer would crash but since i changed the SATA cable it didnt crash, just all the USB componets stopped working. I just downloaded the latest USB driver again. I tried every port when it did crash and nothing. I'm thinking motherboard or power issue. Any insight would be great. I'm going to return this CoolerMaster PSU and get a better one locally soon.

I'm not entirely sure, but you might look really close at your mobo and make sure its not cracked or arcing out. Maybe a loose connector point at the solder? Do you have the latest bios update? Sorry I'm just throwing out ideas.

I'm still kinda leaning toward maybe you're exceeding the maximum draw on your PSU fx processors are horrid for efficiency same as that 770.

Just got my first MEMORY_MANAGEMENT 0x0000001A BSOD. It made a minidump and i opened it up in bluescreenview and it said driver- bowser.sys was to blame. Who woulda thought building your own PC was this head scratching...

Well that error points to your ram OR MoBo. I would try re-seating your RAM, maybe double check you've got it place in proper slots. I don't know for certain about your MoBo, but mine has 4 slots, 2 have matching colors. You should always match colored slots with 2 sticks of ram in a 4 slot board.

Another bit on what I've read on this BSOD is that it could a chipset problem, meaning your processor could potentially need a newer chipset update. I'm not entirely certain of how AMD does this, but I know Intel has a do-it-all utility that you can download, it'll scan all intel based hardware to see if they need new drivers and whatnot. I'm sure AMD has a similar solution.

I'm not trying to jinx you or anything but you might have fried your motherboard with the unstable PSU. High end systems and low end PSUs can be catastrophic. I'm not swearing to it, but with all those errors, it's seeming that you've got something extremely wrong going on in your rig. You might be looking at needing a new MoBo.

You have been extremely helpful with this problem of mine and very insightful, thank you. I'm going to call asus tomorrow and see what they have to say but I'll first try updating things and reseat ram, etc. I think it may be a motherboard issue too but it was crashing with the same problems before on the CoolerMaster but then started to shut off randomly. I'll leave the thread open for a bit and report back any fixes or whatever otherwise I'll mark your comment as the best answer. Thanks again!

Alright so after 6 days changing the SATA cable has stopped the blue screens but, all usb and audio jacks go out sometimes randomly during which video slows down and freezes which never comes back so I have to manually reboot the computer. Its completely random it seems and I called asus and they just had me flash my BIOS thru usb and change settings in BIOS to D.C.O.P.(think thats the name). Froze after I restarted my computer and pulled out my usb and I had already hung up the phone. Changed my RAM MHz speed from 1600 to 1333 and its more stable it seems. Been a day or two since I changed it and nothing freezing except for a game once. We'll see...

I'm not really sure what's going on for you. I wish I could help more but at this point it really seems like something is messing up in the motherboard or possibly in system itself.

When you have inconsistent problems like this about the only thing you can really do is remove/replace hardware until you find the culprit. I would definitely try changing out that ram, if it "seems" more reliable at lower speed, then maybe it has a bad batch of silicon. Try a stick by itself or borrow a stick from someone you know. RAM doesn't "have" to match to work properly.

Hope this helps, sorry m8!
