I like to play Flash games on sites like Kongregate to pass the time when I have a dull moment or two during the day, and I've been having some issues for quite a while and I'm hopelessly lost as to how to fix them. I use a laptop and a desktop to play the same games, however on my laptop the game data keeps getting erased while the desktop does not erase the data. This is extremely frustrating because I would actually like to be able to pick up a game where I left off and not have to start anew every time I log in. The problem is I can't just use the desktop because I'm not always at home when I have these lapses in time to pass.

I have a Toshiba C55 series laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium with Norton 360 and Firefox 30.0

I home-built my desktop with Windows 7 Pro and the same Norton 360 and I run the same version of Firefox as my laptop. On both computers I set Firefox to remember history and cookies.

I have read about flash game data being deleted by Firefox if you don't add exceptions, so I tried that on my laptop with no luck. Then I tried to exempt all Adobe and Macromedia folders (in my User/AppData/ folders) from my Norton scans. Still no luck.

The funny thing is, I've never had to change the settings on my desktop. And yes, I have tried going through every single setting in Firefox and Norton and making my laptop settings mirror my desktop settings, and that STILL didn't work.

My question is this: Do you think it is a) a problem with Windows Home vs Pro, b) an issue with the laptop closing/sleeping/hibernating, or c) something else that I can't conceive of?

If anyone else has had the same issue and a suggestion of how to fix it, I would appreciate it. It's not a huge issue, nor one that will cause the end of the world and civilization, but I really would like to find an answer to this problem.

Thanks y'all!

I'm not sure what you're actually asking...
Are you saying data isn't shared between laptop and desktop? If so, that's simply impossible, unless you manually move the data between both PCs, as flash data is saved on the machine it is used on. However, some games (mostly MMOs) keep data in a central server, so you can access that from any machine.

Have you checked flash player's configuration on both computers? There's a setting telling how much data flash can save on your machine.

Are you or someone else using tools like CCleaner on the laptop? If so, are they configured/used exactly the same way on both PCs? That might be the cause of your data getting deleted...

I apologize for the confusion. The game data is not shared between the two computers and the data is supposed to be stored locally. Therefore, if I play a game called "Blue" on my laptop and on my desktop, I will have two separate and distinct save files.

The flash configuration on the desktop is set to allow 10 MB of data to be stored, but when I do the same for my laptop, it gets reset to the default of 100 KB whenever it does whatever it does to erase the data. As far as I know, all other settings are the same between the two.

CCleaner is not being used on the laptop (never downloaded or installed) and I don't think I have anything that performs a similar function unless it is a Norton function that I haven't considered. I have told Norton not to delete or scan any Windows or Firefox temporary files and Firefox history along with the files I mentioned in my original post.

I hope that helps clarify my situation. The data seems to be fine unless I let my laptop sit either idle or closed for more than an hour or two.

You say your settings are not getting saved on the laptop, while the desktop has no issues doing so...

I'm getting this weird feeling this is a rights-related issue. It almost looks like your browser doesn't have enough permissions to write to your laptop's appdata and/or temp folders.

Try logging in any service you might be registered to and check the "Remember me" flag. If, when you close the browser and re-open it, you appear as not logged in, then this might be the issue. Simply launch the browser with admin rights and it should keep you logged in, not to mention saving any setting you set for flash player.

Try this whether or not you have UAC turned off.
