Hi guys.. This is going to be my first time building a gaming PC ,so i am not sure on what parts should i choose. Can you please help me out in choosing the best build for $2000.
I will be using this PC mainly for gaming and run Virtual machines for learning & work.
I tried to search on the internet, but its too confusing. Please help me.

Solution

what does everyone think of this?
dont store your OS on the SSD, with windows 8/8.1 its kinda pointless, my laptop with a 5400rpm HDD boots up in less than 15 seconds so use the ssd for your virtual machines, 120gb should be enough although you can always add in more drives, the mouse selected is for claw-grip users, for palm grip these...

He not overclocking yet!

He runs virtual machines.

Samsung 840 EVO, got a problem?

780 and 6GB for future SLI

i7, for virtual machine, preoverclocked.

what sort of virtual machine programs will you be running? some of them support hyper threading in which case the i7 is a great choice, however if you;re using something that doesnt support hyper threading then the i7 is a complete waste of money since it really is a i5 4690k that has been hyperthreaded. Also, another beautiful case for your consideration http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-760tblack (there's also a white version)

Crucial MX100 is better and cheaper.

Not even going to dignify your other points with a response.

hmm ok thats fine then. VmWare does indeed benefit alot from hyperthreading, also do you really need speakers or are alright with headsets? headsets are often much better audio experience with less price and as far as the mouse/ keyboard go, do you want actual 'gaming peripherals'? (the likes being corsair m65 and steelseries apex etc.) or just normal ergonomic ones will do? you mention that you will be indeed gaming, so i'm assuming you want good peripherals
EDIT: one more thing, VmWare doesnt allow any more than 4gb memory allocation to all virtual machines if they're running off a single host, look here https://www.vmware.com/support/ws45/doc/performance_mem_ws.html so i guess 16gb is a bit too much, you wont really need it unless you're running like 2 copies of BF4 multiplayer on your pc and a virtual machine

Do you plan on sli'ing anytime in the future? the 6gb card is only useful for sli configurations otherwise the 3gb is plenty of power. Also, sli'ing would only really make sense for multiple displays and/ or resolutions above 1920x1200 or 2560x1440

i won't be doing SLI or Overclocking anytime now.. probably in the future i might give a try. Also i don't want multiple displays, etc.. regd. RAM i guess i will stick to 8Gb. if i require more then i will change it.
i will be gaming, so i need good peripherals..

Can you please suggest me a final build?

i am from India, so i need to shop around a bit to find the best price once i have a build.

This is how I would spend $2000.

Sorry went a little over budget, and that means it's gonna be really over budget in India.
However, if you've ever used a 1440p monitor, you'd never go back to 1080p. Mechanical keyboard and nice mouse are necessities! Included a wireless adapter for convenience, and a good sound card. Speakers suck, but get whatever you want.

i7 is fine now that we know his software supports hyperthreading.

If he's not overclocking why get an unlocked CPU, crappy cooler, and motherboard?

780 6GB is just a waste of money. Even if he does want to SLI in the future.

As for the SSD, the Crucial MX100 is faster than the 840 Evo, as well as being cheaper. I won't go into details on why this is - just do some research for yourself. Try to find information that isn't just on this site. Wouldn't that be crazy?

well i'm not saying anything nor am i implying anything but...

again, i'm not implying anything as i do not have personal experience with either of these drives, but according to all these benchmarks it seems as if the 840 evo is sure as hell faster than the mx100 on paper, but in real-world applications the mx100 is the all out winner
