Everything was working just fine, then about two weeks ago my kindle fire and IPad 2 no longer connect to my modem. The kindle comes back with the error Authentication failed. Both these items will work if they are in the room in which the modem is located. However once I take them a mere 10 ft away they both drop connection. My phone and IPod will still see and use the connection and yet the two tablets will not. I have tried a factory reset on all three devices, I have tried power cycling the modem and the tablets at the same time and yet still they are not connecting. My modem is about five years old give or take a year. Being that all other devices will see the signal and connect it makes me think its not the modem. But any tablet (I have borrowed my friends to test to see if it was the kindle) will not connect in the other room. I am hesitant to purchase a new modem as trying to find a good one with solid hardware is a crap shoot. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Sorry for the late reply, I tried all three channels and the issue still persists. I did however notice that one of my lovely neighbors was messing with the cable box outside my apartment. (the wires have been pulled on and cut into....) I have no real reason as to think that would disrupt only my tablets. Is there another solution you could suggest? Thanks for the help. :)
