Well.. Guess I better start from the VERY beginning and include the fun details..
I have a MSI G45 -Z97 Gaming Mobo, well I bricked it about 5 weeks ago, and sent if off RMA, Bios Flash failure.. Well I got it back yesterday..So I am excited meaning I can put my Back up mobo back up in its case and get my original build back together..

MOBO: MSI Z97 Gaming Mobo
Backup Mobo: Gigabyte Z97
RAM: 8 GB Gskill RIpjaws 2133
CPU: i5 4670k
HDD: 1TB Seagate
SSD: 120GB((111 usable)) Crucial M500
SSD(OS)- Crucial Md00 240GB Msata SSD
OS: W7 Home Prem and Windows 8.1 Pro, -> Both are legal copies mind you, Both Mobos support W8.1.
CPU HSF: Corsair H80i

I originally had W7 installed on the backup mobo while the other was gone on RMA, installed to my 120GB ssd since the Gigabyte one did not have a mSATA only a m2 slot onboard.

No issues what so ever, I also tried windows 8 on it and it did not run into nary a issue during initial installation on my Default 120GB ssd.

Once my Mobo came back I got ot switching out everything taking my normal precautions against ESD, ESD mat and band. I get everything switched out, CPU reinstalled, greased, HSF setup and connected properly, the mSATA seated and screwed in.

Power on normal bootup to Bios, configure it to Legacy+Uefi because it has always hated my CD/DVD Drive, wont work without Legacy mode enabled, evil thing... Otherwise I get sent straight to UEFI shell.
Well I start the W8 installation, all goes smoothly no issues, format my mSATA let Windows 8 do the work of all that fun jazz..
Its done, yada yada.. Now I do the fun stuff updating.. and driver goodness. Drivers come first.

While doing driver I get the very common error DPC_Watchdog_Violation stop error while running updates, this occured 5 times.. Generally W8's hate to SSDs.. I do as I have always done, made sure the firmware to my OS SSD and Data SSD are up to date, both are, no firmware update needed..

But the stop codes didn't stop there I ran into IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL about 15 different times when just trying to install the drivers for the chipset, Sound and graphics, etc..

Then I also had the unfortunate experience of running into the BSOD, CACHE_MANAGER, when just trying to move stuff from a Thumbdrive, tried in 2.0 and 3.0 ports.

I also had the unfortunate experience of running into page_fault_in_nonpaged_area when just trying to do general computing.

Ive done the usual in these cases, elevated command prompt, CHKDSK, and SFC /SCANNOW , nothing was fixed even after both ran still ran into the issues..

Afterwards I ran MEMTESTx86.. No errors were found after 8 hours of running the test prior to running P95 stress on memory.

Well.. Ok.. I clear the MSI Bios of all W8keys by doing a reflash this time on a uninterruptible power supply so no failure due to power loss will result. Flash is successful, W8 key is nixxed.

W7 installation on the MSI board goes off without a hitch...But.. once i started updating and putting in drivers.. I am greeted by the exciting, BSOD , IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 6 different times through out installing drivers..

When updating, I get the fun BSOD, PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA..

Argh can I get a damn break.. Did I lose the PCB Lottery..

At the end of all this I removed my MSATA and tried W8 and W7 on my regular SSD..same exact things happened as listed above..

@.@ Anyways else here have any idear on what else to do.... Did MSI send me back a borked motherboard? Or have I done something stupid.

Im about to yank my hair out here..

Never had so many BSOD's in a 16 hour period...

well, memtest and p95 running ok means the ram / cpu should be ok,
ssd running on on gigabyte means the ssd itself and the os should be good.

so yes, likely culprit is the sata controller on the motherboard. as simple as that... you have any bios updates available for the board? although i suspect you don't really want to try the update again after the first rma...

try setting the sata/ahci in bios to the exact same options in the bios as the gigabyte board that works.

My DatA SSD, the 120GB one is formatted before I install W8 and vice versa on the Msata.. I never have 2Windows OS drives, only W7/W8.1 pro and a Linux Distro for dual boot.

CASE: Fractel Design Define R4 WIndow Black pearl.
PSU: COrsair RM 750.

Im about to change back to my Gigabyte and try it again JUST as a test so see if I havent killed my drive.

I tried taking the Non OS SSD off, same problems.

Bad its happening yet I can not help but have a chuckle. As a tech I am used to these things, well I am no uber guru one, I am still a learning tech, but meh. This gives me more experience on issues i have never had before.. So a silver lining.

I reinstalled W8 and w7 2 times each on my Msata and I ecnoutere dit each time, I failed to mention it on my initial opening post.

My poor mSATA is going to die at this rate...

About to test again just to make sure I didnt do something, back ont he Gigabyte finishing hookups on cables.
Same with my SSD once i get back to the Gigabyte.

I tested my SSD drive on the MSI motherboard I encountered the exact same crap..BSOD out the rear.

Now , with that being said I switched back to my Gigabyte board, and installed to my SSD, and everything went smoothly, no BSODs, no nothing..so Im leaning to a bad board..
