For a laptop, don't use the nVidia drivers, while they supply them, the only supported drivers are from the laptop vendor. If the system does not even see the card, even as an unknown device, it may be bad, contact the vendor for support.

Then you can try to use the reference drivers if you want, but they may not work or may not work properly. You can still run on the older drivers even if the vendor no longer provides updates.
