I just upgraded my asus z87 rog hero and i7 4770k to a msi z97 gaming 7 and a i7 4790k . I also upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8.1 . I ran 3dmark 11 benchmark numerous times and my msi z97 gaming 7 and i7 4790k @ 4.7ghz is scoring 50 to 150 points less then my asus z87 rog hero and my i7 4770k @ 4.3ghz . why is this ?

More about : 3dmark benchmark score lower 4790k 7ghz 4770k 3ghz

Because Windows 8 is that bad. Windows 8 is made for low performance machines in mind. Any mid-high end PC is better of with Windows 7.

2nd options is that your drivers are not installed properly or not working optimally.

because you made a minor pointless CPU upgrade, benchmark results vary, and you changed the OS

oh FFS. windows 8.1 is generally faster all around than 7. Don't spread that nonsense. The point is its a completely different platform/PC and 100 points is irrelevant.

are you saying that 3dmark 11 benchmark scores builds with a i7 4790k differently then a build with a i7 4770k and all builds using different processors have different scoring ranges ?

Different mobo could be affecting things. Temps could also be a problem.

Agreed, win 8.1 is noticeably faster than windows 7 and takes slightly less performance. The installation is awful, though.

As for 3dmark, that benchmark is about 100,1% gpu reliant.

I am using 3dmark 11 which has a combined test and my i7 4770k @ 4.3ghz was scoring higher then my i7 4790k @ 4.7ghz with all the same components .

Well then that's strange. I wouldn't pay too much attention to synthetic benchmarks anyway, though. I got about 10% variance doing 3dmark11 test few times in a row without changing anything system wise (didnt even shut down pc in between). Tried rending videos yet? Gaming shouldn't make any difference anyway.

it is not a nonsense. Aplication running on windows 8.1 performing 5% slower than on windows 7. It is a fact proven by many benchmarks
