Can't access my external hard drive is there any way to fix this?

I have a 2TB Buffalo external hard drive. One day everything got bad. Here is the problem:

Local disk G is my external hard drive. Green bar is loading very slow then not responding and can't access to hard drive.
Here is a disk management:

When i open disk management nothing to see. in a status bar says that connecting to virtual disk service.

Is there any way to fix this? Help me. I just want to get back my 5 gb of data.

As you can see that disk management shows nothing. When i unplug my external hard drive everything go back to normal and i can see my basic hard drives. When i click Local disk G to change letter my cursor goes loading i can't do anything. And i also tried different usb port.

Connect the external
Open the command prompt with admin rights
execute this command:
chkdsk g: /f /r
it will fix your disk and recover most of your files, but it will take at least 18 hours to complete

Hey! I had exactly the same problem, only my hard drive was 1TB Verbatim Store 'n' Go.
the solution you provided solved my problem after ~10-12 hours of operating and it recovered the files inside.
It is working perfectly now! Thanks!!
