I can not predict the job market several years out.

I will say this: Work in Your field while You are in college (and before) so You will have experience and a degree. A degree without experience is worth (almost) nothing.

Both are very broad degrees. I.T degree is more hardware/systems based. Computer science is more of a degree you lean toward if you want to get into software development/programming.

As far as the degree without experience part, unfortunately that's partially true, it seems even entry level positions are tough to get into these days. I started out doing call center helpdesk support and that gave me a lot of experience while I was in college and it looked great on paper (although call center jobs suck big time). I then moved on from help desk and got into systems and network administration for more high level infrastructure support.

What do you want to do in terms of a career goal/pathway?

Lots of companies in my experience the big ones will hire on and pay some interns for work while in a 4 year accredited college, I know college students do that for the county I live in and I know of some big oil and gas companies who do the same. Right now software development seems to be making more money and for me more job openings because not everyone wants to do it, but don't base your decision on that because youll regret going into a field just for money..
