Apologies if this has been covered but my Google-fu appears to be weak today.
I have a Western Digital 500GB Caviar Blue SATA HDD that usually sits inside my Dell desktop PC. Model number is WD5000AAKB.
I wish to mount it in an external enclosure and connect it to my laptop as a USB drive. To that end, I purchased a http:// unit but the connectors for the HDD and enclosure are incompatible. Is it normal to connect a cable between the HDD and the external unit for data/power purposes?
