Hi guys,
I am looking to upgrade my graphics card which i currently have and get a better gpu!!
My first question is which would be better? 2 mid range gpus or 1 high end gpu. I am looking at the Asus Mars geforce gtx 760 4GB, or the Asus Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II 4GB GDDR5!!
Or if there is anything else for around those prices either 2 gpus or 1 gpu

I have
Intel core i7 4770k
16gb ram
Asus z87 pro motherboard
750 watt psu

Thanks

If i was going to buy a 290X i would only look at ASUS or Sapphire, from everything I have read they seem to have the best cooling, considering the 290X runs hot even at stock settings, you want to make sure you also have a good cooler and good airflow in your case, add a few more case fans ect.

For that resolution, and the choices you have listed I would go with the 290X, and start saving for a second 290X. one will get the job done but I don’t think you will not be able to max everything out and stay above 60fps consistently without a second 290X. Defiantly get the most powerful single GPU you can afford.

Thanks for that chris, would you recommend any other brands, such as xfx, gigabyte etc. However i have heard that the xfx runs at a higher temperature than other gpu's and is louder. Anything else you would suggest or just stick with the 290x?

The 290X sits between the 780 and the 780ti in performance. The 760 is more comparable to the 270X or 280.

If you like NVIDIA but can’t afford a 780, and you really want to run two cards, check out two 770’s. But there are issues with running a SLI/CF setup, as not all games support SLI/CF, so you will only be using one card in those games. Also SLI/CF can cause shuttering in some cases, though that is getting better. I would still recommend getting a single powerful card over running a SLI/CF setup.

Are you serious? Show me where the 290x falls behind the 780. I'll provide 2 examples to show the 290x is above the 780. Your turn....

Wow dude chill out… I said the 290X is between the 780 and 780ti, as in 780ti>290X>780.
