SSD not recognised.

Hello guys!

I'm having trouble connecting a SSD using windows XP.
I'm currently using both Windows 7 and XP, and I can't get XP to recognise it.

The SSD is fully functional in Windows 7, so it's not damaged or anything like that.

So, my question is: Are there any available drivers to make it recognise it? Or XP is just too old for it?

I see your point, but I'm not attempting to use the SSD as the OS's primary drive. XP is already installed in my 500 GB HDD. Will that solution work?

Hi

Are you booting XP from a Hard disk and not being able to read a SSD ?
(very strange)

or the XP CD and bootup does not recognise the presence of any hard drive or SSD ?

It is a good idea to format the XP partition using Windows 7 so that the partition is correctly set up for advanced format 4k sectors as XP does not recognise these
(it only knows about 0.5k sectors which most advanced format drives emulate, but cause slower drive access)

It helps if you have a floppy disk drive to provide the F6 sata driver or use nlite to integrate the sata driver on to a new XP CD

It is not the SSD which is not recognised but the SATA hard disk controller in AHCI mode which requires a driver

Hi mate,

one ways or another the key to your solution is putting those SATA drivers on windows XP, without them it will never discover your SSD regardless of whether it is being used as the primary or backup. You get those drivers on you'll have your SSD back

Hi

If SSD was prepped with windows 7 and you used a gpt boot sector and partition system rather than MBR, then XP booting from another hard disk won't see the SSD

This assumes modern PC with Uefi bios and all SSD and hard drives on sata controller with sata controller set to ahci or native mode in bios

If XP on a hard drive connected to a ATA controller then may be a sata driver is required
