Should I buy a GeForce GT 640 graphics card and will it be able to run properly on my PC?

Hello everyone!

For awhile now I've been saving money to buy a new graphics card. I'm doing it myself this time, because the last time I got someone to upgrade my PC for me, I ended up being screwed over. So this time I'm going to do this alone. Problem is, I know very little about hardware and compatibility.
I did some research and I'm thinking about buying a GeForce GT 640 (i'm not looking for some fancy high end gaming, or anything like that). I don't know if it can run on my computer without bottle capping my psu. I can't afford to take any risks. So I turn to you guys for help.

Here are my specs:

E5500 2.80GHz
4 GB of RAM
32-bit OS

I opened the side of my computer to see how many watts it had, but it was in Chinese so I couldn't tell what is said. I remember reading 250 or something like that, but don't take my word for it.
So yeah, I want to know what you people think. Can my PC take it?

Solution
Depending on your case's temperature, you're limited to 240-280w. Go for a Radeon 7750, if you don't wish to upgrade the power supply. 18 amps on your 12v rail should be more than enough :)

As the GTX 640 can run on a 300w PSU, I'm sure you'll be fine!

Just open make sure the PSU is at least 300w. If it is 250w, like you believe it may be, I would suggest getting a Radeon 6670 or 7750. Either of those should work fine for you.

Hope this helps!

Yes, hello! The system manufacturer is 'LENOVO' and the system model is '0851RY7'.

I'll try again. Can I post a picture of the label here?

Sounds like a plan.

Yes, you'll have to upload the picture to a site like photobucket, then upon replying, click the little tree icon for "picture." Paste the URL from photobucket (or the like), and we'll see it!

Are there any differences apart from the power usage? Could I still be able to play newer games on at least low settings?

750ti is a solid pick if it is in your price range. I believe you should be cool with that PSU, you'll have like 12Amps left for the rest of your system, which should be ok. Although, honestly, that PSU seems low quality, is LiteOn the micro center house brand? I swear I've seen it before on optical drives, but I can't find it on the PSU tier list.

The 7750 would be able to play newer games to a good, moderate, degree. Don't expect ultra, though! haha
As for which GPU to go with, it's based upon your budget. $80: r7 250 (previously known as 7750) $110+: 750 ti (just make sure any one you get doesnt require a 6-pin connector)

Ok then, I'm going to have to look for that one around town. Now I saw this 'GigaByte ATI RADEON GV-R677D5-1GD' how does this one stand up? Oh and, are there any DRR problems i need to know of? For example, if my PC uses DRR3 but the graphics card is DRR5?

I believe that's a 6670. Which is still a decent card, which will work in your system :)

Here's a r7 250/HD 7750: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121800
or

You'll have no memory issues. GDDR5 is graphics exclusive. Most modern builds have GDDR5 vram with DDR3 ram.

Great! I'll go look for a Radeon 7750 tomorrow! I forgot to tell you, my current graphics card is a 'GeForce 210', how much of an improvement would the 7750 and the 6670 be compared to it?

Roughly 33% better, according to Game-Debate.

Hope all goes well!
