Hello,

My girlfriend is going to college soon and her grandparents are buying her a laptop. I'm trying to convince her to get a gaming one and she wants me to help her.

I know the specs required I'd like to find her one with a i7 4xxx and 870 or 880 or even SLI but I can't find anything under 2k UNLESS it has horrible cooling or a non 1080p screen.

Anyone know of any under $2000 that are 870m and up?

(She plays Skyrim, I'm going to try to convert her to a PC gamer. I offered to build her a PC but she needs a laptop for classes)

And please, Alienware and Razor are over-priced for their performance. Meanwhile ASUS costs more due to coming with more RAM more CPU etc.

(Trying to make it just 8GB RAM room for or comes with 128GB SSD has 870m or up and i7 4xxx)

msn g's ghost, i7 4700 and 870m. thin light 3 hour battery laptop itself heats up quick while gaming

msn gt70 dominator pro, i7 4800 gtx 880m, 9lb thicker 4 hour battery, fans cool great but can be noticable at max speeds

Asus g750 i7 4700 gtx 870m 9lb thicker 5 hr battery, fans excellent cool great barely even hear fans

id say the msi gs ghost then. slim/light/portable

15" or 17" options, as well at 1080p vs 3k screen options, 860m and 870m options, and 128gb ssd or 256gb ssd options, both also include 1tb hhd. I believe all are under $2000. The 17" ghost pro with all goodies was like $2050 on sale, but id honestly opt for the 15" throw in the 3k screen if I were to buy one.

I started with asus g750 js, but cpu would throttle under max load while rendering. So went to switch to msi. I was seriously torn between the ghost and the gt70 dominator, both had great things going for them. Ghost, slim and air intake above keyboard and not under laptop making it an actual laptop, plus i7 and 870m. But heavier dominator had 4810 (4900) and 880m. I went 880m as I use mine more as a replacement and have my surface pro for around and about, plus the dominator at 9lbs still fits in my backpack so is still mobile. But the ghost still seems awesome. Great specs, slim, light, extremely portable. Its a great choice. Plus with 3k screen, goodie!

Sager laptops are the best value probably, there are "slimmer" laptops available but much more expensive. Regardless a few suggestions; Don't get a 17 inch laptop if she is carrying it everywhere, they are too bulky. You won't get a good light gaming laptop, the lighest you can hope for is the razer one and as you said it's too expensive. Everything else is around the same weight - around 5+ lbs. Skip SLI - in laptops it's too prone to overheated, bar alienware which has the best laptop chassis for cooling, IMO.
