software to monitor network traffic

Is there any reasonably inexpensive software out there that might help me to identify if one of my network devices is causing my cable modem to go offline for hours on end? I've already had my cable company come out and replace all suspect cable and replace all ends of any cable that goes to my cable modem. When the tech left, he showed me the modem signals and they were excellent and stayed that way for a few days, then the problem started up again. I feel confident that the 2.5 he spent there testing everything inside/outside now points to something that I've got going on with either a switch or one of my network connected devices. My router logs don't seem to have anything in the that gives me a clue.
When the cable modem goes offline everything behind my router firewall works, no problem.
I have a DLINK DIR655 router, 3 five port switches and one 8 port POE switch, along with multiple network devices (cameras, tablets, Tivo, TV, etc.).

I am looking for something that might record all network traffic so that at the point the cable modem goes down I might be able to get an idea of what was happening on the network at that moment. I've been on vacation for over a week and with no one home this happens on it's own.
I'm not a networking person, hardware/software support, so a suggestion for something that is reasonably easy to use (and buy) would be appreciated.

It might well be the cable company.

I had this same experience with Cox cable some years ago. 3/4/5 times a week, internet signal would die. TV was fine. Everything from the interface box on the corner to my monitor was replaced.

It turned out to be one of their upstream boxes dying, based on temp and humidity. Guy come out the next day, all is fine. That evening...death. Wash, rinse repeat.
Keep a log of exactly when it goes offline if you can. I got so where I could predict to within 15 minutes of when it was going to die.

If it is the cable box and all devices, it is probably them.

I don't think there is a consumer level tool to monitor all those devices.
