Hi

Im quite new to NAS but have done a fair bit of research and was wondering if someone could clarify something for me.

I've been looking at buying a synology four bay NAS to do the following,

1. store my movies and episode to stream to my Samsung telly using DNLA and download stuff using a bit client.

2. Using it as a personal cloud to back up pictures and movies from mobile phone etc.

Setup,
I wanted to set it up as follows 2x4tb not in any raid or maybe in stripe to store movies, but then at the same time 2x1tb in Raid 1 to back up pics etc. In the remains two bays

Can some tell me if this is possible? E.g. have two different raid setup on single unit and is it difficult or cumbersome?

If you need any more info just let me know.

Thanks.

Was thinking the same thing but just had a chance to give them a call tbh.
Plus I thought that there might a bright spark here that already has the answer or has this setup already.

I've never done a raid 0 and a raid 1 but I've done two raid0's, two raid 1's, a raid 5, raid 10... LoL
Just be aware that you can't have the nas backup its internal array to another internal array. You can use a pc to do it acting as a middle man but it will take twice as long. the nas, by itself, can only backup to a usb or another nas.
