My desktop wont boot with 2TB ext hd plugged in even after I changed the boot order. Model desktop is Gateway DX4860. I have fixed it before on this machine but that was a while ago.

Come across this problem myself, although I don't think I've ever come across a solution. Maybe in the BIOS tinker with the USB initialisation (i think that's what it's called) I'm sure theres full initialise part and off although I really can't remember.

Okay so i didnt really figure it out I actually have a new problem. I turned the pc on today and magically it bypassed the usb hd and started up great ( I did this a few times to make sure it wasnt a fluke) it works great! So i think to myself okay now i'm clear to install my second hard drive in the case with sata WRONG! I install it and now i get the same problem with the new internal HD! So I go into the Bios Make sure the boot drive is the first on the list and it still wont boot up with the drive plugged in. Any ideas?

Did you have a look at the USB settings in the BIOS like what me and the other guy said? it could very well solve your problem.

That problem is solved. Its become an issue with the new HD thats I installed Internal with sata. Even after I changed the bios is still wont boot past the new HD to the OS.

Hi mate, can you say exactly what it is to not boot? Does it get to loading windows then restarts or does it just show a black screen? Also just throwing a suggestion out there I know you've set boot order but what about if you keep pressing F8 at the start to bring up the boot options then select your hard drive from there? In the boot options you may also notice a uefi boot and normal try both let us know how it goes

Basically I start the system and it goes to the motherboard screen then says select boot device. The bios has been updated with the correct HD and the same problem occurs. There are no options for new bios or any other config as far as I can tell.
