How to move OS to SSD?

Just got a new laptop, I've decided with StartisBack, that windows 8.1 is fairly good. I have an SSD arriving tomorrow.

How do I move it to the SSD without re-installing windows and keeping my legit copy.

If it is a samsung or intel SSD they include an os transfer utility.

You then just need a usb-sata cable adapter.

If you got a different brand ssd you can use any hard drive clone utility like acronis, paragon or macrium reflect

Use a hard drive cloning utility like easeus todo backup. Some ssds even come with their own utilities for that purpose, if the manufacturer provides them.

Before you begin, Create your restore disks.

Next make sure that the space taken by the hdd is less than ~80gb.
You will be down to 100gb with a 20gb overprovision which will be about 93Gb after formating. NTFS will reserve ~10gb for metadata ...
