I currently have two displays hooked up to my new 290 vapor-x, one displayport to a 120hz monitor and one hdmi to my tv. The hdmi output is visible before windows boots to the desktop, and is also visible while the catalyst drivers are not installed. GPU-Z also shows the increased ~10watt idle power associated with multi-monitors, although nothing else in windows with the catalyst installed shows the tv at all.

I've tried booting only to hdmi, reducing the displayport refresh rate, tried all different tv hdmi inputs, tried different catalyst sets, tried two different win7 boot drives, and so far nothing's helped and I can't figure out what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you gone into Windows resolution settings and enabled the 2nd display? By default, only 1 display is used. Right click the desktop, click on screen resolution, and there will be settings to detect, enable and how to use the 2nd display.

yeah what bystander said is right also it'll say something about displays you can make it your primary, or secondary display. Mirror resolutions etc

Only one display appears, even when I hit detect (same in Catalyst). But I will try it again with the drivers uninstalled to see if it shows the second display then.

@kunthakenthe It only shows up on the TV for bios/predesktop content and when video drivers are uninstalled.

Okay yeah, that's weird. With the driver uninstalled, it still only shows one display, automatically mirrored onto both as "Generic PnP monitor on Standard VGA Adapter." So it knows it's there but not as a separate input.

Are both displays plugged into your GPU? I don't think it'll work if one is connected to your motherboard and one to your GPU.

Yep, they were both plugged into the gpu. I also got it working now by using driver sweeper (or whatever it's called now) and the drivers from the cd that came in the package. I'll try to update to the newest catalysts and see if it's working now too. The CD has 13.12 installed, I'll try and see if I can upgrade still.

Okay, upgrading to the newest betas breaks it again. I'll try the latest drivers on the sapphire site, sigh.

Try the latest WHQL drivers on AMD's site instead.

congrats on the problem being solved. Use drivers from home site(AMD,intel, nvidia, etc) just better

Unfortunately, it's really not solved. The latest drivers on AMD's site (14.4, 14.6b) don't fix my problem. The latest drivers on Sapphire's site (14.3) don't fix my problem. I'm likely going to have to contact Sapphire/AMD directly, or swap between drivers for different things. But the hdmi output should definitely be working regardless of which driver you choose, and it's not acceptable to have to pass up mantle, compatibility, and performance patches for something that should obviously work.

it doesnt sound like a faulty hdmi but have you tried different cables. I think you should stay with the drivers that worked even though their outdated it seems the new ones have a problem.

I've tried different HDMI cables, unfortunately that didn't help. My tv doesn't have displayport, or else I'd try that.

I could try the hdmi to my monitor and see if that works or not I suppose.
