Weird error when installing Linux Mint Petra 16 onto latop.

Got a weird error when installing Linux Mint onto a laptop of mine. http:// I thought it was a disk burning error so i burnt the image onto another disk but, got the same error.

That error is specific to a cdrom read error. Either your cd/dvd's are defective in some way, your actual disk drive is defective or the iso you download is corrupted (check with md5sum)

suggest making a usb boot media with lili:
http://www.linuxliveusb.com/

Also linux mint 16 is depreciated. Version 17 is the stable version you should use.

I would love to make it boot off a usb but, the computers bios is so old that it doesn't support boot off of usb. :(  I'm pretty my disk drive is not defective have tested by having to load a printer driver off a disk. Will try downloading Version 17 and see if it works.

Got another weird error i guess you could say when trying to install Version 17. As Linux Mint is doing the automatic boot counter, after the counter reaches zero I get black rectangles going across the top third of my screen.
