BF3 Massive lag

My brother recently installed bf3, but he is unable to play it due to massive lag, it seems to only be affecting bf3 since games like CS:GO and League of Legends is working fine.
It's not only multiplayer it also affects the single player mode
Specs:
GPU r9 290
RAM 16gb
SSD harddrive (didnt tell me how many gbs nor the brand)
AMD FX (tm)-9370 4.40ghz (x8)
Motherboard asus m5 a97 r2.0

lel, he joined another server and that seemed to fix it, that doesn't explain single player though. Apart from you solution of course

Im surprised the board hasn't caught fire. The VRMs on that motherboard were not meant to handle a 220w cpu. The CPU is probably throttling down when put under a load. Run something like prime95 or furmark while you monitor the cpu freq in cpuz.

Whoops didn't mean to put this as the solution, do you know of a motherboard that would be compatible with the cpu vice versa
