How much of an upgrade is an R9 280X 3gb over an R9 270X 4gb?

I bought a Gigabyte R9 270x 4gb version, but am finding a deal on a Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X for $185. The thing is it was used for mining.

R9 270X: 256 bit, 4 gb memory
R9 280X: 384 bit, 3gb memory

I'm thinking of buying it from the guy, then selling my R9 270X. But I wanted to see if it was even a worthwhile upgrade, so I decided to ask the Tom's Hardware forums. Thanks!

R9 270x performs almost the same at 2 or 4 gb. Its not powerfull to handlle anything past those 2gb
Same goes with 280x performing the same at 3 or 6gb.Even beteewn 780ti and titan black (3 vs 6 gb) there isnt any diference. So 280x is better than any 270x but at 1080p you dobt need more than you already have , especially grinded cards ready to cranck when you use them.
but, personally i would NOT recommend buying in the same generation (or even the next if you already have a decent one)
usually what i do is buy a good one and skip a gen. Say a 560Ti into a 760, that would be a HUGE jump.
but if you are not that happy (270 is ok), then wait for the next at least like a 380x (or nvidia). i think you will notice it more in terms of speed boost.
