About 2 months ago I purchased a His IceQ X Radeon R9 270x on newegg becuase I was getting crashes on my old gpu. I used some raptr app that downloaded with ATI CCC to "optimize my games for my gpu" and I'm still crashing. Great news, I can now play games like starcraft 2 on medium settings, because on ultra I'm getting to 86C and crashing. So I ran some tests using prime95 and keeping mwmonitor up, my cpu is fine. Now worried it might be the gpu I ran a test using Furmark instant 96C and crash.

Anyways I closed Furmark and came instantly here... Is my GPU bad? Is there something else that is possibly causing this issue? Help!

don't use furmark~ nvidia actually automatically down-clocks their gpus with their drivers during furmark to prevent from heat damage. furmark will simply break a high end gpu if you're not careful.

So you spiking to 96C and temp crashing isn't that surprising... it's what furmark does to some cards.

the best way to overclock a gpu is with MSI Afterburner, and stressing it for stability with MSI Kompressor. both are free programs, and both will work just fine with your gpu.

i'd set your card back to stock and stress test it first with Kompressor, just to make sure it's working right. assuming it passes, you can then start to overclock it in afterburner.

You mean MSI Kombustor right? You do know that kombustor is basically furmark right.. so its just as bad for your card.
A better way to test graphics card stability is to let Unigine Valley loop for awhile.

basically furmark is not furmark... but whatever. and yes... kombustor... kompressor... whatever, my buddy drives a kompressor, sweet ride. must be what got stuck in my head today.

So I'm not quite sure I want to overclock, I just need to check stability and stop crashing. So should I just run unigine valley benchmarks then? (Bear with me as I'm pretty new to this and only installed my gpu and psu to my old stock computer)

edit: Unigine valley knocked out my computer quickly. within 5-10 seconds tops. I moved it from high to medium and I was getting really hot so I had to turn off the benchmarker when my GPU passed 75C. If this tests stability I should assume my GPU is shot?
