PC freezes for a few minutes then continues

So, I built a new rig about six weeks ago, and after installing Windows 7 Pro and getting/updating all drivers, I began using it.

Immediately, it began freezing on occasion (not every time) when playing video files with VLC, playing some flash games, or even watching a video on youtube.

First thought it was a power supply issue, and now I am on my 3rd one, an Antec HCG-850M (exchanged/returned the first two as I thought they were the issue.)

I have run memtest86+ for 27 passes with zero errors.

I am running this system on an MSI Z97 PC Mate LGA 1150 MB and have run its update utility to ensure all drivers are up to date.

I have not yet purchases/installed any GPU, as I wanted to make sure system was stable before complicating it.

I am running out of ideas as to what would be causing these freezes.

If I wait, the system returns to normal after 3-4 minutes; however, as I am using a Samsung 840 EVO SSD, it only takes 30 seconds to restart.

Any ideas?

Since swapping out stock CPU cooler for Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, the entire CPU package does not go above 32 degrees Celcius, as tracked by CPUID HWMonitor.

Chkdsk does not find any errors.

BIOS was updated through MSI directly to latest version.

Still freezes for 3-4 minutes randomly, then resumes.

My apologies for the delay, I was away for the weekend.

I ran Furmark and I am getting 5-700 scores, and the test are completing just fine.

It will definitely be worth your while that rather than relying solely on chkdsk to simply verify the disk structure and possibly 1 or two bad blocks it would be a good idea if you download and install say Acronis Disk Monitor to check if you have any S.M.A.R.T. parameter fails.

This is certainly worth it

Let me know how this goes for you please?

Thanks for the response.

Acronis Disk Monitor says all drives are OK.

There is no GPU installed.

As this was a new build, I wanted everything up and running before putting one in.

The only one running is the on-board graphics of the Intel chip.

It sounds like you really have given the hardware a good going over.
Let ask how many DIMM slots the board has what memory it takes and how your mem is arranged?

As you've run the mem diags its also worth bearing in mind that no memory diag can ever fully test memory by that I mean it would take ages to attempt to replicate the complex memory transactions occurring with the memory of a live system with a complex OS like Windows 7, OSX or Linux - its worth keeping in mind.

Are the DIMMs in interleaved slots? Are they same manuf./speed/timings??

On thing also you could try - hopefully to ascertain if its the hardware or software is to try booting a live linux distro and then try streaming using VideoLAN to see if you get a similar/same effect.
