Got a new g3258 (with the msi z97 pc mate) through the microcenter deal and I was wondering what people were getting for overclock values and at what voltage?

Edit: Oh, and what cooler are you using?

I got 3.9Ghz using the stock cooler and stock thermal paste with stock voltage.

I tried raising voltage on the CPU and I tried up to 1.3v but couldn't get 4Ghz to work. The temps never went passed 70C so they weren't the issue. I put Liquid Metal Pro on it and changed the thermal paste which brought the temps down but still can't do 4Ghz. Once it hits 45C during the stress test it blue screens. So I have given up on it.

I saw some get 4.2Ghz, and I saw a few push 1.5v on their chip, and two killed it that way.

You don't have to have a high end board. Any Z87 or Z97 board works, and those can be had under $100. Then Asus unlocked overclocking on their B85 and H81 boards, with more probably going to unlock later.

As for the reviews, take them with a grain of salt. They have lots of information, but their test units are given to them by Intel, who gave them perfect samples. Several people already owning them aren't getting past 4.2Ghz on average, while review sites got between 4.5Ghz and 5Ghz always.
