Hi, I recently built my new desktop and was cecking CPU temperature today, and I found out that the my CPU temperature ranges from mid 70 to low 80. This is what my motherboard (I have ASRock Z97 Extreme 4) measures. However, when I used real temp application, it was showing me that my CPU temperature ranges from low 40 to high 40. I dont know which want to believe...Please tell me which one should I believe. Thanks!

You're confusing CPU temperature with Core temperature. Don't feel bad; it's a common mistake. They're completely different measurements.

what did you use to check the first time? bios?
bios runs your CPU at full pseed so it can be hotter
waht is most important is temps when running the stuff you do e.g. games
so runa game with real temp opena dn see how your temps are?
the i7 4790K can be hot and hitting 80c under load with stock cooler is expected
