Changing usb 2.0 to 3.0

is there any possible way to turn a usb 2.0 and get the speed to 3.0 or is it a physical thing in the hardware itself. I'm just wondering if possible usb 3.0 isnt super expensive so i could just buy it

  1. No, it's a different physical chip (nowadays, newer logic in the chipset to be precise) and more wires in the cables. If you don't have a USB3 board you can get a PCIe card.
  2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=USB+3+card&N=-1&isNodeId=1

Above are some USB 3 cards. I installed this on an x58 motherboard that did not have USB 3. With the card I have two USB 3 ports at the rear.
  3. oh im not trying to buy sorry but thanks for the offer. I was just wondering if this was possible

It is possible only with the appropriate PCI card.- the USB 3 controller is different from the USB 2 controller, and a hardware change is necessary. It cannot be done by software alone.
  5. oh yeah thats what i was wondering thanks. Thanks everyone who helped out.
