Dell Dimension C521 won't load Windows by itself!

Hi Everyone,

I have a Dell Dimension C521 desktop computer, and recently I made the mistake of updating it's BIOS. Originally the BIOS installed was version 1.1.8, and now I have 1.1.10 installed.

Since installing the new BIOS my computer does not boot up normally. Even though I have set the boot order correctly the computer will not load Windows. Instead after the BIOS post screen I simply see a cursor flashing in the top left corner of my screen.

Ironically if I press F12 during the boot sequence and manually select the Hard Disk drive Windows will load.

It is as though the computer does not recognize to boot Windows unless manually told to do so.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Davo

Hi Everyone,

The plot thickens; because I was using a KVM switch to view the screen all I saw was a blinking cursor, however now that I have a monitor connected directly I am seeing the message below -

Here is the BIOS boot order -

The boot order doesn't appear to affect anything. I have had the settings here 'reversed', with the CD ROM first, and the hard drive second. Furthermore I have tried the hard drive on both of the two SATA ports.

Here comes the irony, if I press on F12, for boot options I am able to boot into Windows XP!

As you can see above if I manually choose the boot order, I can boot into Windows. But left to itself, this little beast is truly in another DIMENSION (excuse the pun!).

Any further help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I just installed Ubuntu 14 (x64) successfully. Once installed, I took out the boot media, and pressed ENTER (as instructed) which turned the computer off. I then turned the computer back on and once again "No boot device detected...". I am beginning to think that the BIOS is corrupt!
