Simple graphics card cable question. Two 6pin-6pin cables or one 6pin-2x6pin splitter?

I had a radeon 7850 gpu and recently bought an xfx double d r9 270x. I went to switch out the cards and realized that the 270x requires two 6-pin power cables. The 7850 only required one. I have a cooler master 850w fully modulated power supply so there is no problem with having an extra pcie slot but this brings me to my question: what is the best way to power the gpu, cable wise. I am powering my 7850 with a single 6+2 pin to 6 pin cable. Should I just get another 6pin-6pin cable or a 6pin-2x6pin splitter? Is one of these ways more optimal than the other? An answer would be greatly appreciated as I am waiting to buy the cable until I am sure of what I want to use. Thanks in advance!

I am currently using one 6 pin - 6+2 pin connector. That is the only one my psu you came with, or I have misplaced the others seeing as it has been 2 years since I built it. The real question I have is whether to buy another 6 pin - 6 pin cable and have 2 cables running from my psu to my gpu or to just replace my current cable with a 6pin - 6x2 pin splitter.

cooler master silent pro hybrid 850w 80+ gold

I was thinking of just getting a splitter so I wouldn't have as many cables. But apparently that can create problems and it is just safer to use two 6pin to 6pin cables?

My lack of connectors isn't the problem as I am willing and able to buy as many as I need. The question I really need answered is whether I should use a single cable with a splitter or 2 separate cables in order to power my gpu.

I had to come up with a 2nd 6pin when I got my gtx670, I had 2 unused 4pin molex that I turned into the 2nd 6pin. I remember seeing adapters that could turn 1 4pin molex into a 6pin but I went with the 2 4pin molex to a single 6pin and was fine for years, it still works but I had to get a new PSU when I got my 780ti.

I remember using those 4 pin molex adapters to power hard drives and dvd-roms on my previous computer but nothing that came with my new computer used them yet my PSU still had them just in case anyone wanted to hook up older drives. Hopefully you have 2 unused 4pin molex cables like I did as it works flawlessly.

Hello. I have some question about it. I have graphic card GTX 260 with two 6 pin, and my psu have one power cable splitter PCI-E 6+2 pin + PCI-E 8 pin (with two red connectors), and one 6 pin cable (with black connector). I'm wondering now how to connect the graphic card with that psu. It seems that with this two cables it is not possible, but what about with two 6 pin cable(one with black connector and one with red connector)? What is difference between red and black PCI-E 6 pin connectors?

Thank you very much!

Regards, Denis
