after a resent restoration of my computer it has refused to read the mouse or the keyboard but the desk icons top are there

Please define "restoration". Did you restore the system drive partition, reinstall windows, change hardware (including BIOS reset)?

Can you enter BIOS with del key at startup? If not, do you have any PS/2 compatible keyboard around you can use to try to do it? In BIOS there is a setting for "Legacy USB devices" which needs to be turned on for USB mouse and keyboard can be recognized.

Also check in your BIOS whether or not your USB ports are disabled alltogether.

thanks herrwizo;but my restoration was just to update my resent settings because my audio was not working well i recovered the sound audio but lost the mouse and keyboard functions

This might be due to an IRQ conflict. First check the settings i recommended in the previous post, and then try disabling onboard hardware you don't need (most likely serial and parallel port - just disable them in BIOS; if you have onboard VGA plus discrete graphics, disable onboard to free some resources).
