Today I just bought a brand-new gaming pc however i can't find the usb wireless adapter that should come with the pc. I can't run a wire to the pc because the router is in the other room. My last resort is to use my laptop to convert wi-fi coming from the router to a wired cable (1 end of the cable into the laptop, and the other in the pc).
Then i just went to bridge the connections and it went fine, however there's an ip address conflict on the pc. I can access internet from the laptop, however i can't do the same from the pc.
Can anyone help me out please? :(

Thanks.

Laptop is connected wirelessly to router for internet access. Laptop has ICS enabled (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-internet-connection-sharing#1TC=windows-7). Desktop is connected via ethernet cable to laptop.

Is this correct? Also, check the link to ensure you have configured properly.

Note, your ICS shared network will not be in the same network address range as your main network (192.168.1.x vs. 192.168.2.x, for example). Just something to be aware of.

So im gonna start with possible a silly reminder you are using a cross-over connection between the two machines right , because if you are going lan to lan port you will need a cross over rather than a standard piece of internet unless you have a switch in between them.

To get this slightly MCGuyver Esq method to work you are going to need to turn off DHCP in your network essentially you need to set a static IP address for your laptop which will then become a gateway device for your device to use

For example if your router itself is running an internal network on 192.168.0.1 you need to manually tell that tower and laptop to be Ip's 0.5 , 06 then tell the tower than its network comes as a shared connection from the laptops IP via its proxy settings

I wouldn't recommend this method as its ... going to perform like crap essentially you are setting up the laptop to be a proxy server and if the laptop ever turns off or is moved then your screwed.

You also will have to configure every mobile phone to use a static IP because with DHCP off you will have to force EVERY device to pull internet through the laptop proxy

either buy a cheap wireless adapter http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-WN821N-300Mbps-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B00194XKXA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1404994606&sr=8-3&keywords=wireless+adapter

Or get some power line adapters to connect through the walls http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-PA211KIT-200Mbps-Powerline-Adapter/dp/B004INVKP4

Even the cheapest powerline are Going to be So much faster than anything else
