Should I benchmark my new computer

Solution
The best thing to do is look up burn-in and stress testing. There are a ton of articles that explain it, and the various programs that can be used.
yes. the point is you can compare your results with known data in case you missed something when assembling installing. if something overheats it will reduce speed to keep up for example so if you cpu doesnt get the same or close enough results you know you've botched the paste install, and so on for other components.

also it's good to stress out a bit the components while they are new. that way they fail early and you can return them immediately.

Not a problem, looking up how to overclock also usually covers stress testing procedures. If you look up how to overclock your specific cpu/gpu, you should be able to get a grasp on what average temps to expect and what programs will suit your needs best.
