What do I have to put thermal compound on?
Does it go on my cpu, gpu, cpu cooler or what?
Im new to building btw.

My cpu cooler is hyper 212 EVO, does it come with good/enough thermal paste?
Also, does the hyper 212 EVO need the backplate?

Thanks

EDIT:
how do you put it on the gpu? my gpu is the gigabyte gtx 770 oc, and i dont see how i could apply it.
also, does my gpu already come with thermal paste? is it good enough, and also how often would i have to reapply it? my thermal compound is arctic cooling mx4

Solution

Leave the GPU, it comes with it's own thermal paste already - you don't need to open it up!

For the CPU you put a very small dot in the middle of the CPU then put the cooler on top, the weight will spread the paste around. Yes, the Evo needs a backplate.

I put thermal paste on my cpu when ever im putting a new cpu cooler on there, It goes on the cpu its self, unless you buy a pre applied cpu cooler with it on it. It goes on the gpu also. And the hyper 212 already comes with it when you buy it. May I suggest you go with liquid cooling, Because liquid is awesome :)

The paste goes on the CPU, small dot. Here is everything you need to know about application and effectiveness.

Putting the paste in a ziplock bag, then putting it in warm water for 10 minutes can help it spread easier, just be sure to make sure everything is dry before you apply it.

thanks, but are you sure about not putting it on the gpu? If thats the case Im glad cuz im afraid to break the gpu, but i also dont want it to overheat at the same time

Do you want to break your warranty?

If you open up your GPU, your going to void your warranty, and given your lack of knowledge about thermal paste application, I don't think you'll do a better job of applying it then the factory where it's assembled.
