What is this connector on the end of my SATA cable?

I found this connected to a SATA porn on my mainboard, the white connector was not plugged in to anything. I've been googling furiously, but I can't seem to find anything. Can someone shed some light on this strange connector?

Oh - it's the other end of the same cable. I read it as being a plug hanging off the side of the main SATA plug, with the other end being normal SATA.

I would assume it's a proprietary plug, possibly for something like a front panel eSATA port or drive backplane.
