Is my PSU dying?

A while ago i started hearing weird rattle noises coming from my pc. I thought it was the gpu while it mostly happened when almost at full load, but after having gotten a new gpu the noise is still there.
I am experiencing rattle sounds from the pc at high loads, and when playing system heavy games like battlefield 4 my gpu suddenly drops to 0% performance at random (like lag spikes), which of course destroys the framerate in critical moments.
I searched the topic and the sound is apparently caused by some damaged component and i read that the FPSdrop-spikes were either due to the psu or software. The fps drops have onle appeared recently, but the rattle noise have been there for about a year now..

Does anyone have a clue to what is going on? I would appreciate help while im clueless.. :(

Many thanks, Jakob

Solution
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3550 CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8088MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 11
GPU: GTX 780 TI, "triple silencer"
Powersupply: 750W antec hcg-750m

Will be trying the fan trick out today, although my CPU "only" reach max temp 60C.
Ill try to take a closer look at the PSU then, i just have to move my setup around a bit first.
First, please list your hardware components ;)

As for the solution... open the case while the computer is making this noise and determine which fan is making that sound. I suspect your CPU fan is doing it, not PSU. You can easily figure out if you lean your finger against the middle of the fan (at the round flat surface) to stop it just for a second (dont stop it for more than that!) and if the sound stops, this is it. Just be careful not to stick the finger into the blades, this could hurt ;) You can do it if you must, but go slow.

Lag spikes are most commonly caused by overheating, so if CPU cooler is making sounds, I suggest you to replace it with a proper aftermarket cooler.

When you hear the rattling noise, can you try to pinpoint the noise source by touching the back of the PSU?

It seems like the PSU fan might be on it's way out and the automatic temperature controls throttle power delivery to your components, reducing the power supplied to the GPU etc.

Okay, i somewhat located the noise.. it is coming from either the graphicscard or the psu, they are standing close to each other so its hard to determine.
I tried inspecting every fan, even detached cpu fan under heavy load, but none of the fans had impact on the noise, not even the gpu's. I had my old gpu replaced due to the fact i thought it produced the noise, but it did not help, also as i have said, the noise is only present in certain games when the whole system is under heavy load:
example, witcher2-ultra has a low pitched rattle, and bf4-high 64 players a noisy rattle.

I put my cellphone under my graphicscard and above the psu this morning so you at least could hear the noise.
When im speaking i'm comanding my brother to alt+tab in and out of bf4, and enjoy my morning face at the end.
(extremely present at 0:27 and forward)

So my question now is, is there a internal fan in the psu that could cause this? Or could it be a component?

Many Thanks
