i can get the i7 for just £5 more, but it is also is not a k model which means no overclocking. The i5 does have overclocking but has less cores, which one is better for gaming?

Solution
i don't know your system config but i think 4690K is enough for you.
both 4770 and 4690k have 4 cores.but 4770 has 8 threads and 4690K has 4 threads.

Easy solution, as you'll use the pc for gaming. Do you intend to overclock (if not now, in future)? If so, go with the 4690k, if not, go with the 4770. In gaming performance on stock speeds there shouldn't really be any difference. The i7 doesn't have more cores, but it's able to hyperthread them, resulting in two executive threads per core. This will not yield anything for games, though.
