I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and have the latest windows updates. My CPU and GPU are Fx 8350 and R9 270X. When the system goes to sleep mode i can't turn it back on (wake it up) it's only blackscreen. I've tried moving and clicking with the mouse and also tried pressing buttons on the keyboard but nothing works. I have to force-shutdown it and then start it again. This is really annoying and I know a lot of people have this problem too. I've tried allowing mouse and keyboard to wake up the system through Device Manager but it still doesn't work.

I have a [different] 990FX board, and Ctrl-Alt-Del did wake it up when I had a similar problem. I haven't been using that system recently, but it seems to be AMD-related, as multiple past AMD systems would do this, but none of my Intel machines had (or have) this problem.

It's a video card problem. AMD r9 200 series and others have some issues on sleep mode, probably caused by drivers. Actually there isn't a proper solution to this, you should deactivate the sleep mode for now.

Sometimes I've seen a BSOD, and it has always referenced a power-state related issue in the video driver; so Taglierino may unfortunately be dead-on. My own systems have indeed had AMD video cards in them most of the time, although not R9 (HD7870, HD7970, and/or HD7770). I got one of these last week on my Intel system. I've thought of it as a different problem than the one described by the OP, but if it is driver-related, it may just be a different symptom of the same problem.

In W7: The restoration data gets saved as follows:
Using Sleep, saves to: Memory.
Using Hibernate, saves to: HDD. &
Using Hybrid, saves to: both.
Well I've now discovered that resume works fine, if I use Hibernate instead of Hybrid !
Though it doesn’t make sense:
Sleep works, Hibernate works, so why not Hybrid, as it just a combination of both !
NB: Hybrid is the default for desktops.
Anyone have a solution ?
