8GB Mushkin 2x4 2400Mhz on offer for £62. is this enough RAM for my needs:
Gaming
Coding ( simple coding via Lazarus, Visual Basic)
General Home Use ( lots of web browsing and MS Office)
Some Game Capture ( Shadowplay with light editing (cropping, titles, etc).
this is my first build ( i7 4790K, Asus Z97-WS).

I will upgrade later when necessary to 16GB. Is 8GB enough and how long will it last?

Yes, it is. That is great RAM. Remember that if it is 2400 MHz, it is probably 1.65 V, which is out of the memory controller specification. Not that it wouldn't work, I run 1.65 V RAM now and will soon with my 4770K.

12 gigabytes? Watch_Dogs on Ultra uses 3 GB of VRAM and 2 GB of RAM.

Yes you can run it on 2gb ram but on lowest possible settings watch dogs uses 6gb of my 8gb while ac4 bf 4 don't get above 3gb one dude with 12 ram had 9gb of usage so..

As long as your not doing ALL that at the same time. Normally 8GB is enough for anyone, BUT people whom multi task alot (i.e. 20 tabs open in chrome, while video capturing, streaming Spotify, running chat Windows, Email running in background, etc.) at the same time need 16GB. I had run into OFTEN running low on RAM because it is typical I am running alot at the same time, or worse having to remote to 2 or three systems at the same time and that eats up RAM as well.

Since you are building, would go 16GB now rather than 8 and plan on upgrading which (on the safe side) would entalil picking up a 16GB down the road as it's not a good idea to try and mix DRAM, it can be and often is problematic....additionally DRAM prices have been rising and will continue to do so, production on DDR3 will decline as the manufacturers continue to gear up for DDR4

It uses 2 GB of RAM. The system uses around 2 GB of my 8 GB when everything is fully loaded, and with Watch_Dogs on Ultra, my RAM usage hits 4.5-5 GB.

I will test it when I get home, but so far I have noticed that my 8GB is good enough for my browser (TomsHardware), Watch_Dogs, MSI Afterburner, some music playing on YouTube, and some monitoring applications. I don't recall hitting 6 GB ever. Remember that 2 GB (give or take) is because of your system. I heard that it uses 3 GB of RAM, but that is all that I have heard or seen. It may take more if you are using your iGPU, though.

You running an iGPU? That would make sense because the iGPU would use RAM as VRAM.

Aha well no my i5 3350p doesn't have integrated gpu as my mobo acer predator atx i just didn't known that abbreviation.

Alright. A dedicated GPU would have its own VRAM. Ultra uses 3 GB of VRAM and a few GB of RAM.
