If you are watching streaming videos, then they're both the same. If you are creating streaming content, then it depends on the software that you use.

Depends on the games you play. If the games you play do not use up many cores, then the i5 would provide a better gaming experience. Otherwise, the FX would help in both the gaming and streaming end.

But the FX line is dead so there's no direct upgrade to the FX-8350 right now. That's the bad news. For Intel, you can upgrade to the i7.

Does the 4790k really give you an advantage over the 4690k in streaming? Im lost, i have 3 cpus on my mind i7 4790k, 4690k and fx8350 dont know what to get i want the most performance possible with spending as little money as possible. (I could get the 4790k but i dont know how much performance that would give me over the another two)

The i7 have hyper-threading. In terms of gaming between the i7 and i5, there's no difference. But most streaming software support hyper-threading (like OBS) and that's why the i7 will be better.

From someone who has previously owned an AMD 8350 and currently owns an i5 4690S, I would recommend going Intel. Main reason being is that the AMD FX 900 series boards AND the FX processors are dated well over 2+ years and the Intel has new board chipsets z97/h97 AND processors - so the technology is much more current.

All of this being said, you have the option of spending an extra $100-$150 for an i7 with 8 hyperthreading cores. The i7 will beat the AMD 8350 in nearly all rendering tasks.

The problem with the AMD FX CPU is that, although it does have 8 'cores' it is two cores per module. So each core shares an FPU which isn't really that efficient. So the 8-core FX line is really just a marketing gimmick, although it is 'technically' true.

As someone who has experience with both sides I recommend Intel for you CPU :)

@hybird9012: the i7 (at least the ones within the price range that you mentioned) is a quad-core processor, which means four threads. Hyper-Threading ups it to eight threads. So it's four cores with hyper-threading, not eight, otherwise, that would be sixteen threads.

You are correct. I meant to say 'streams' not 'cores'. But the AMD FX 8-core isn't any faster than the i7 quad core. The cores on the FX cpu's share resources in the module and have to route tasks through logical algorithms. AMD was hoping this wouldn't be much of an issue but essentially certain cores have to wait until other cores are finished with computations.
