Alright so I plan on getting A single sapphire radeon r9 290 tri-x OC, which is apparently the best card I can get for the price(btw does anyone know how long it lasts? Since I heard OC cards have shorter life) I'm sure within the next 2-3 years if it last that long,I'll be able to run every game on high 1080p at atleast 30-60fps which is fine for me. However I dbout I'll be able to get 100+fps in games where it matters..I don't plan to ever crossfire or sli, simply not ever gonna be in my budget.

On PC I play mostly RPGS,Some Strategy games, MMOS, and indie games which aren't really demanding graphic wise. Looking at the gaming calender the only competitive fps games I plan on getting within the next year are evolve and star wars battlefront.

I only plan to game on it and my monitor budget is $250.
Now I've been recommended to get the ASUS VG248QE which is a 144hz TN Monitor however I just don't feel like with my card I'll be able to utilize it in the long run, and that what it is good for is over kill for the type of games I play anyway, and with the apparently lackluster color/picture quality compared to other types of monitors would I be better off getting something else to better suit my style of play...Basically I just need some more convincing one way or the other. I can't even name another monitor because its the only one I've been told about...I'm starting to think mabye I should just stop fighting it and get it lol.

At $250 your choice is basically between a 60hz 1080p IPS monitor or one of the TN 144hz monitors. I would go with the ASUS TN monitor, personally.

Given that you mainly play RPGs and strategy games, have you considered going beyond 1080p to 1440p? You will be going over budget at that point though. Or you could get a 1080p 60hz TN screen for $120-150 if you don't think you'll take advantage of the increased refresh rate, but don't want to get into 1440p+ territory

You can compare the 2 other 144hz TN monitors BenQ has one and AOC just released one in US but they are pretty similar, BenQ is 27 in instead of 24, but is also more expensive.
$250 USD, CAD, or AUD?

A graphics card's life span has many variables. Even without overclocking, it can just die, as with any electronic. It's almost a luck of the draw. The power supply has a lot to do with it too. A PSU with poor ripple suppression and voltage regulation can reduce the life of the graphics card and other components in your build. I've never had a CPU or GPU die on me with the root cause being overclocking.

Factory OC cards generally have CPUs from a better group that clock higher, but if you're really worried about it get a card from a company with a longer warranty. MSI, Gigabyte, and Asus have 3 year warranties, Zotac has a 5 year warranty, and XFX has a lifetime warranty.

Thanks for the replies, $250 . As for the card If its as high quality compared to some of the others as people say I'll prob end up just buying a 3 year warranty, and I like how its auto OC...although the XFX would be cheaper(although the Tri OC was on sale a few days ago at 370..sucks that I missed that)..and that free lifetime warranty is awesome.
I think I'll wait till prices become cheaper before I go for a res higher than 1080 if it is more than 250, and I'd need a better GPU to get the same amount of FPS anyway so prob in a few years. I am starting to lead towards the ASUS 144hz TN tho..I'm not gonna be buying till monday which gives me a good amount of time to think about it.
